June 30, 2025 -Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY), a global leader in semiconductor solutions, today announced the successful completion of the sale of its 200mm wafer fabrication facility located in Austin, Texas. The transaction, which was originally disclosed in February 2025, marks a strategic milestone for Infineon as it continues to optimize its global manufacturing footprint while reinforcing its presence in the United States.
As part of the agreement, SkyWater Technology (Nasdaq: SKYT), a U.S.-based semiconductor foundry specializing in domestic, technology-enabled manufacturing services, will take over operations at the facility. The existing workforce at the Austin fab will transition to SkyWater, ensuring continuity, expertise, and local employment. SkyWater intends to expand the fab’s capabilities to support a broader range of customers and markets, including government and commercial sectors.
To ensure a seamless transition and long-term cooperation, Infineon and SkyWater have also entered into a long-term supply agreement. This agreement enables Infineon to continue sourcing semiconductor components manufactured in the U.S., thereby maintaining a robust, efficient, and scalable production base in the region. It also supports Infineon’s commitment to supply chain resilience and secure technology access in North America.
“By working closely with SkyWater through this strategic partnership, we are ensuring that Infineon can continue to serve its North American customer base with high-quality, locally manufactured semiconductors,” said a company spokesperson. “This collaboration supports our mission to deliver energy-efficient, reliable, and innovative solutions to meet the growing demand across key industries such as automotive, industrial, and communications.”
In addition to the fab transition, Infineon reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the Austin region, where it plans to maintain and expand its R&D and sales operations. Texas remains a key location in Infineon’s global innovation network, and the company aims to strengthen its footprint in the state as part of its North American growth strategy.
This development aligns with Infineon's broader goal of increasing production agility and enhancing collaboration with U.S.-based manufacturing partners, while continuing to invest in research and customer support infrastructure across strategic markets.
